Here's a contest I wanted to share. It's NPR's Three Minute Fiction contest.
The rules are simple. Write a scene of 600 words or less that begins with the line, "Some people swore that the house was haunted." It must end with, "Nothing was ever the same again after that." Simple enough.
It reminds me of the 24- or 48-Hour Film Projects, or the CS Open Writing Tournament (now known as the Cyberspace Open in that you're given a prompt and asked to fill out a story around the idea.
There's no entry fee, so there's nothing to be lost. And, who knows, you may just write the spark of a bigger project!
