The last week and a half has been a blur. In that time I got a job, bought a car, moved to Florida where I'm staying with my brother temporarily, started said new job, recorded videos for the online Literary Research class I'm teaching, started apartment hunting for a permanent place to stay, and drove to Rockledge to visit a friend.
People have been asking, "aren't you excited for your new job?" My general feeling on it is that I've been relieved. I'm relieved to not have to look for work anymore, to not have to worry about money, etc.
What I've learned in the last week:
- I work with really nice people.
- My job is awesome.
- Florida bugs still suck, especially when they leave stains on my pretty new car.
- There actually are some pretty neighborhoods in the Orlando vicinity that don't look like a tourist strip or a dodgy concrete mini-version of the San Fernando Valley's less aesthetically pleasing areas.
and
- I need my own apartment.
All these revelations in mind, one could call it my 'research', I've come to start feeling more than just relief at being here...but excited. Excited for my class to start in May. Excited for my own apartment. Excited to plant some roots and flower here.
The seeds have been sown. I'm ready.
